Josie watching Trixie
Snuggle time before brothers leave with Dad.
Boxes are so much better than the room full of toys. Her first bonked head at her new home.

Josie has been home a week!
Josie has been home one week and we have already seen so many changes in her. She is letting her personality shine, and shine she does. She has begun to let her brothers know that she knows what she wants to do on her own and doesn’t always want them to choose where she goes. She definitely lets them know not to take away any of her toys. We might have to have some lessons in sharing at a later point. When she first came home she would only wince when she got hurt, but never cry. We have been making sure that we show her affection when she gets hurt, so now when she falls she whimpers just a bit and checks to make sure Mama has seen her before she moves on. She is still a tough girl but she is starting to want the affection from us, which is great. She now has some fuzz on the back of her head where it used to be bald from rocking herself. She almost always lets us rock her completely to sleep now and we barely ever hear her rocking herself anymore. Yea! She now loves bath time and cries when we take her out instead of being terrified to get in. She has become quite the eater and wants to graze all day. The first few days in Russia she lived on yogurt, applesauce, pedilite, puffs and a bit of baby food. Her diet has expanded quite a bit. She is a very happy, smiley girl and her brothers adore her. We are so blessed to have all 4 of our kiddos.

She fits right in
It is amazing how a baby girl born 1/2 the world fits so well into our family. Josie is a wild girl just like all 3 of our boys. And I wouldn't change any of them for the world. She has a lightning fast crawl that can get her into anything. She really likes blueberries and avocados which were some of all 3 of our boy’s favorite things at her age. She is an animal lover just like all of our boys. She loves our dog, which I find amazing since she has not had any exposure to animals. Josie stands at the window and watches for Trixie and feeds her cheerios thru the window which made me had flashbacks from when Wesley was her age. She crawls up on anything she can get herself on. The fireplace happens to be just the right height so I'm constantly getting her off. She actually got her first baby bonk in her new home from the fireplace last night. She is full of energy and lots of smiles and laughs. It seems like she has been here so much longer than she has. We are so blessed to be chosen by God to be her family.

Absolutely without a doubt!
Several people have asked us if it was possible to have the same feeling for an adopted child that happens for a biological child. I can honestly say without a doubt that yes it is the same. The love started in a different but very similar fashion. When we found out we were having our boys there was an overwhelming sense of needing to protect them from anything that could possibly hurt them. Never again would I sit in the smoking section of a restaurant no matter how long the wait was for a nonsmoking seat. When we heard their little heartbeats they started to become real and the seed of love began to grow. The ultrasound confirmed that realness and the love grew. Then finally the moment that they came into this world and were placed in our arms, there was that overwhelming wash of unconditional love that nothing can change. It is similar with Josie. The moment we saw her picture and learned that this child could be our daughter, we had a sense of needing to get to her to see if she is being taken care of. We wanted to protect her and our only way was thru prayer. We had to let God be her protector. The first time we met her our hearts melted and we wanted to be her parents but we felt as if there was still so much uncertainity so we had to guard our hearts a little. With each passing visit we could feel the love for her growing until the moment that she was placed in our arms forever. There was that overwhelming wash of unconditional love that just can't be changed. In a way with the adoption of Josie we had to rely on God so much more. It felt as we had less control over the outcome than with our boys. As soon as we decided that we would adopt we began praying for her wherever she was. We knew we had no control over if she was getting good nutrition or care or what conditions she faced. We had to leave that in God's hands. Until we meet our Heavenly Father we will never know why our precious daughter began her life 1/2 a world away but I'm so very glad that we followed his plan and she came into our lives. We just can't imagine our family without her. Our lives have been forever changed in so many ways.
The Gift of Life
I didn't give you the gift of life,
But in my heart I know.
The love I feel is deep and real,
As if it had been so.
For us to have each other
Is like a dream come true!
No, I didn't give you
The gift of life,
Life gave me the gift of you.
